I have had the awesome privilege to give Linda Doyer recognition during my music-motivational programme in Whiteriver.
For the past 11 years Linda battled cancer. She answers with this quote when asked about the experience "I don't want it over, but I also don't want to miss out on the experience."
To Linda, Life has new meaning.
Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, and underwent a double mastectomy and chemo treatment. She was convinced that she was one of the lucky ones because her cancer was detected early and she followed al the necessary procedures. Although the experience was traumatic and awful Linda was ready to embrace the rest of her live, cancer free - but that did not happen.........
During a routine six monthly blood test in 2002, doctors detected an elevation of cancer cells in her blood. She was sent for a number of tests and scans. Together with her husband they received the devastating news that the cancer had returned, and had spread to her liver, and was incurable......
To Linda it felt as if her whole life collapsed. Her first concern was for her four children and her husband. Who would look after them when she was gone?
She cried nights in a row - and then she turned to her Light, the only Hope, the Lord, her Rock and Anchor.
It is now six and a half years later, during which Linda underwent numerous chemo treatments - she lost her hair on three occasions...... At times it looked better - with the cancer count down - and then to take a turn for the worst - when the count is up and she has to be brave for the next round of chemo....
For Linda her faith put's things in perspective, - "we are just passing through and the best is yet to come." When all is said and done, Linda believes it is all about relationships, - she has learned to love and appreciate other people".
"Don't put things off - today is all we have. Do what you want to do now, tomorrow might be too late - Choose to focus on the positive. Appreciate the love and support of your loved ones Be thankful for what you have. Climb into the heart of the Lord - there you will find peace " - this is Linda's wisdom.
Linda, thank you for sharing your story with us. Your story touched me in the deepest parts of my soul - words can't describe the effect. Thank you - love Sonja
