My Dad Philip died of cancer on the 29th of November 2009 at the age of 84. He had a full life and really made an impact on peoples' lives just by who he was. He had a passion for life and as he said when he was diagnosed in September, that he is not ready to exit yet!
He was going to fight the battle and try his best, as he was a strong 84!! But the radiation got the better of him and his body could not fight back. The effect of the radiation left its mark and his health deteriorated..... we all just trusted God not to prolong his suffering, and God was faithful.
Now my brother Wayne and I only have each other as our mom also passed away March 2008. It is a sad, lonely feeling, but we both realize that life is short and we must seize the moment - as life is but a passing stage......
On the 16th of December I still have a performance and then I am also going to have a rest. It was a year full of challenges.....
My new album "Pêrels" is now in the final production stages, before being released early 2010. I will keep you posted.
Another interesting co-laboration for me this year, was the song I did with the dance group ON QUE, singing a duo with Winray from ON QUE -" Muchos Gracias."
Pasella did an interview with us about the collaboration and staged the song. Willie Venter, the manger of ON QUE, and a dancer in his own right, also produced a music video of the song that can be seen on YouTube. Watch here.
I have also already recorded the songs I do in the movie "Liefling - die Movie" and I am looking forward to the filming in January and February 2010. Read more about "Liefling - die Movie" on www.liefling.com
Now on a more depressing note.
The press contacted me and wanted my opinion about the ruling in the court case between Klay & Els.
The press however misquoted me in the "Sondag Newspaper". My comment was "die reg het sy gang gegaan - wat meer kan ek sê" . I definetely did not say what they reported. I strongly and absolutely do not associate myself with this negative dirty press!
My sympathy lies with Robbie Klay and if they subpoena me to testify in a possible civil court case, I would do so.
I don't have any agendas and I am not actively taking part in any actions. Should it be required of me I will contribute to the best of my ability with honesty and integrity. It is often the easy way out - to say no comment!, and to keep yourself and your name out of the line of fire. However it does not matter what you say, some one will always criticize you, as every one has his or her own truth.
I also believe that one should never take one self and other people too serious and to always try to keep perspective.
I am slowly beginning to realise that it is the Christmas Season as this year has just gone too fast for me. I am now going to rest and en enjoy and appreciate the festive season and the people in my life.....
May you all have a peaceful blessed Christmas and may 2010 be full of good surprises and nice challenges.
I think the times we are living in, especially in our own country, we are forced to move out of our comfort zones, and reach out to one another and grow in love and faith and in trusting the Lord.
One can only please God through faith! And that is something I have to pray for daily......
As the Bible says "faith is the substance of things hoped for - the evidence of things not seen.
Love
Sonja
